Tradier is a US online broker that sells its brokerage as a building block for software. You can trade US stocks, ETFs and options in Tradier’s own apps, through one of more than 100 partner platforms, or through your own code. That is why the API, the programming interface for scripts and trading bots, and the new MCP server for AI assistants take a large part of this review.

We did not open a Tradier account for this review, and we placed no orders. Everything below comes from Tradier’s pricing page, its API documentation, its legal disclosures and FINRA’s BrokerCheck, all checked on November 1, 2026. Where we could not confirm a claim, we say so. Live execution, the apps and support response times are not part of this review. This article follows our editorial policy.

Risk warning: trading involves risk, and options and futures can lose you money fast. This review is not investment advice.

Tradier in 30 seconds

  • Who it is for: active options traders in the US and developers who want to connect their own software or an AI assistant to a broker.
  • Costs: three plans as of November 1, 2026: Lite for $0 a month with $0.35 per trade or contract, Pro for $10 a month with $0 on stocks and equity options, Pro Plus for $35 a month with cheaper index options.
  • API: included in every plan, with a paper-trading sandbox on 15-minute delayed data.
  • AI connection: a hosted MCP server with 22 tools, live or paper, set by a paper-trading switch and the matching token.
  • Watch out for: a $50 inactivity fee, 9.75 percent margin interest, payment for order flow and two regulatory fines (2021 and 2026).
  • Our rating: no score, because we did not test Tradier with an account.

What is Tradier?

Tradier Brokerage, Inc. is a US broker-dealer registered with the SEC and a member of FINRA and SIPC. According to its BrokerCheck report (CRD 104982), the company was formed in Illinois in 1993 and is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Tradier does not hold your securities itself: accounts are carried and cleared by Apex Clearing, a large clearing firm that works for many online brokers.

Futures run through a second company, Tradier Futures. Tradier’s footer names it as a member of the NFA, the US futures self-regulator, and as a trade name of Lazzara Consulting Inc; its pricing FAQ calls it Tradier Futures Inc. A futures account needs its own application and at least $500, and money moves between the two accounts only by wire transfer.

Tradier’s business model is the plumbing behind other apps. The home page counts more than 100 connected platforms and more than 1 billion API calls a month. For you as a trader this means: you may end up at Tradier because your charting tool or options platform uses it as the broker, not because you chose Tradier first.

What you can trade at Tradier

Market What Tradier offers (as of November 1, 2026)
US stocks and ETFs Yes; no opening orders in OTC-BB and Pink Sheet stocks
Equity and index options Yes, including multi-leg orders such as spreads
Futures and futures options Yes, through Tradier Futures, micro and standard contracts
Crypto Crypto ETFs, options on crypto ETFs, Bitcoin and Ether futures; Kalshi event contracts announced as “coming soon”
Forex Spot forex through Tradier Futures, for US residents only, on TradingView and MetaTrader 4 and 5
Not offered Coins held directly, CFDs, stocks outside the US

“Crypto” at Tradier does not mean buying Bitcoin itself. Tradier’s crypto page lists crypto ETFs, options on those ETFs and Bitcoin and Ether futures. If you want to hold coins in a wallet, you need a crypto exchange; our Coinbase review covers one.

Tradier advertises spot forex, but only for US residents. According to its forex page, checked on November 2, 2026, Tradier Futures offers spot FX on TradingView and MetaTrader 4 and 5, with leverage of up to 50:1 on major pairs and no commission on top of the spread. Traders outside the US cannot use this offer; confirm the account terms with Tradier before you apply.

Tradier pricing and fees: Lite, Pro and Pro Plus

Tradier sells trading as a subscription: the more you trade, the more a monthly plan pays off. On Lite you pay nothing per month but $0.35 per stock trade and per option contract. Pro costs $10 a month and removes the commission on stocks, ETFs and equity options. Pro Plus costs $35 a month and lowers index options and futures further.

Item Lite ($0/month) Pro ($10/month) Pro Plus ($35/month)
Stocks and ETFs, per trade $0.35 $0 $0
Equity and ETF options, per contract $0.35 $0 $0
Index options, per contract $0.35 $0.35 $0.10
Micro futures, per contract $0.75 $0.35 $0.25
Standard futures and futures options, per contract $1.50 $0.75 $0.50
Option assignment or exercise $9 $9 $5
IRA fee $30 a year $0 $0
Desktop app Tradier Pro not included included included
Web app, mobile app, API included included included

The commission is not the whole bill. According to Tradier’s fee schedule, checked on November 1, 2026, options trades carry a clearing fee of $0.0775 per contract (at most $15 per leg) and an ORF fee of $0.02 per contract. Index options add an exchange fee, for example $0.60 per SPX contract or $0.04 per XSP contract. Futures add NFA, exchange and regulatory fees plus a clearing and routing fee of $0.35 per contract; a CQG connection costs $10 a month, a Rithmic connection $25.

Pro becomes cheaper than Lite at 29 stock trades or equity option contracts a month. At 29, Lite costs $10.15 in commissions against the $10 Pro fee; at 30 it is $10.50. The pass-through fees are the same on every plan, so they do not change the comparison. Index options cost $0.35 on both Lite and Pro, so Pro saves nothing there; Pro Plus at $0.10 per contract ties with Pro at 100 index contracts a month and is cheaper above that.

Several account fees matter more than the commissions for small accounts. Tradier charges a $50 inactivity fee a year if you make fewer than two trades in a year. Moving your account out by ACATS costs $75, an outgoing wire from the brokerage account $30 in the US and $45 abroad, and margin interest is 9.75 percent a year. A brokerage account has no minimum deposit, but Tradier says accounts unfunded for more than 60 days get a limited online experience.

New customers can test Pro or Pro Plus for two months without the monthly fee. The offer on the pricing page applies to new customers who sign up there and deposit at least $500 within 30 days. After two months, the normal fee of $10 or $35 a month is charged automatically, so put the date in your calendar.

Tradier earns money from payment for order flow. Its Rule 606 report for the second quarter of 2026 says that all orders go to Apex Clearing, which routes them to trading firms such as Citadel Securities, Hudson River Trading, Virtu and Jane Street. Tradier keeps 95 percent of the payment those firms make for equity and options orders. This is legal and common at low-cost brokers, but it means the broker earns more when you trade more.

The Tradier API: what developers get

The Tradier Brokerage API is a REST interface that every account can use without an extra fee. REST means your program sends ordinary web requests to an address such as api.tradier.com and gets JSON data back. According to the API documentation, you can read quotes, option chains with Greeks, price history, balances and positions, and you can place equity, option and multi-leg orders, including bracket orders (OTOCO) with a target and a stop.

Production Sandbox (paper)
Address api.tradier.com sandbox.tradier.com
Market data Real time (some index data 15 minutes delayed) 15 minutes delayed
Orders Live orders Paper fills against delayed data
Account and watchlist requests 120 per minute 60 per minute
Market data requests 120 per minute 60 per minute
Trading requests 60 per minute 60 per minute
Futures not available not available

Every Tradier brokerage account includes a paper-trading sandbox, but the sandbox is a code test, not a market simulator. Paper orders are filled against 15-minute delayed data, so fills and prices can differ from what a live order would get. Use it to test whether your code sends the right orders, not whether your strategy makes money. Our Python trading bot guide shows the backtest that should come before any paper order.

Login works with a personal access token, and that token needs care. According to the documentation, a personal token does not expire until you create a new one, and it gives full account access. Never put it in code you share. Apps that serve other Tradier customers need partner status and the OAuth login flow instead.

The documentation is honest about a few limits that matter in practice. The market data is a consolidated feed with Level 1 only, the best bid and offer, without order book depth. There is no price history for expired options. If you send too many requests, the API answers with HTTP status 400 and the text “Quota Violation”, not the usual 429. And a new order can come back as accepted even if a later system rejects it, so your code must check the order status afterwards.

Real-time data can also be streamed. Tradier offers HTTP streaming and WebSocket connections for quotes, trades and account events, with one market data stream and one account stream at a time; the account stream was marked as a beta on November 1, 2026. Tradier publishes no official libraries: the Python, .NET and other client libraries on its list are written by the community and, in Tradier’s words, “not presently supported or endorsed”.

Tradier’s API covers stocks and options, not futures. If your strategy trades futures by code, you need the CQG or Rithmic connections of Tradier Futures, or another broker. Our algo trading guide explains the steps from a trading rule to an automated order, and our Alpaca review covers the closest competitor among API brokers.

The Tradier MCP server: trading from an AI assistant

Tradier runs an official MCP server, a connector that lets AI assistants use your brokerage account. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, a standard through which assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Gemini CLI call outside tools. Tradier announced the server on December 22, 2025, and hosts it itself, so you do not run any software on your own computer. Tradier’s MCP page says it works with every plan, including the free Lite plan.

The documentation lists 22 tools in four groups. The MCP documentation, checked on November 1, 2026, names account tools (profile, balances, history, gain and loss, positions, orders, cancel order), watchlists, market data (quotes, company profile, history, calendar, option chains) and six order tools for equity, option, multi-leg, OCO, OTO and OTOCO orders. A documentation search tool completes the list. The list has no separate streaming tool and no futures tool.

Example prompt (ours, not tested) Relevant tool(s)
“What are my balances and open positions?” get_account_balances, get_positions
“Show me the SPY options chain for Friday with Greeks.” get_options_chain
“Sell a put spread on SPY for a credit of at least $1.00.” place_multileg_option_order
“Buy 10 shares with a target and a stop.” place_otoco_order

Whether the AI trades real money depends on the paper-trading setting and its matching token. With the production token and the setting PAPER_TRADING “false”, orders go to your live account; with the paper token and “true”, they go to the sandbox. Tradier’s own support page warns that AI systems “may misinterpret commands” and execute unintended trades. Start with the paper token, and keep the confirmation prompt your AI client shows before a tool runs.

How an AI order travels at Tradier
  1. YouYour promptYou ask the assistant for data or an order in plain English.
  2. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and othersAI assistantTurns the request into a tool call and, in most clients, asks you to confirm.
  3. TradierMCP serverChecks your token and calls the Tradier API.
  4. Tradier and Apex ClearingBrokerLive setting and token: the order goes to the market. Paper setting and token: the sandbox fills it on delayed data.

A dark line marks each hand-over. The same token rules apply as for your own code.

Connecting an AI assistant also means sharing your account data with the AI company. Tradier’s MCP data disclosure of August 27, 2026 says that it sends the account, holdings and transaction data needed for your request to the AI provider, and from then on that provider’s privacy rules apply. Tradier can also change or stop the service at any time. Read the AI provider’s data terms before you connect a live account.

Other brokers offer the same kind of connection. Alpaca also publishes its own MCP server on GitHub. For charting rather than trading, our guide to the TradingView MCP shows how an assistant reads a chart. Tradier’s advantage is the hosting and the options orders; its limit is that it covers only the brokerage account, not futures.

Partner platforms: Tradier behind other tools

Many traders use Tradier without ever opening Tradier’s own app. Charting, scanning and options platforms connect to Tradier as the broker and send your orders there. Some partners publish their own terms: on its Tradier page, StockCharts advertises free stock trades and unlimited option contracts for a flat $25 a month through its StockChartsACP charts (no date on the page, checked November 1, 2026). Our StockCharts review covers the charting side.

Tradier also appears in other tools we have reviewed. TrendSpider lists Tradier in its official broker directory; our guide to TradingView alternatives describes TrendSpider. The Rockwell Trading software names Tradier as its broker connection, see our Rockwell Trading review. Tradier’s futures page says its futures accounts are synced with TradingView.

Partner pricing can differ from Tradier’s own plans. Tradier’s fee schedule says customers eligible for special partner pricing receive an email after the account is opened. Before you sign up through a platform, check which commission you will actually pay and whether the platform charges its own fee on top.

Tradier’s own apps

Tradier offers three apps of its own: Tradier Pro, Tradier Web and Tradier Mobile. Tradier Pro is a desktop program for active traders and is included only in the Pro and Pro Plus plans; the Lite plan gets the web app and the mobile app for iOS and Android. For futures, Tradier offers Tradier Pro for Futures and web and mobile access through CQG.

We did not test the apps, so we cannot judge how they work in daily trading. Tradier’s home page names features such as position groups, which bundle related trades on web and mobile, and a trade journal called Strategy Tracker in Tradier Pro. FINRA’s 2026 findings, described below, mention hundreds of customer complaints about the online system and website; that is the firm’s history, not a test of the current apps.

Is Tradier safe? Regulation, protection and fines

Tradier Brokerage is a SIPC member, and your securities and cash are held at Apex Clearing. SIPC steps in when a broker fails and customer assets are missing, up to $500,000 per customer including $250,000 in cash, according to SIPC. It does not protect you against trading losses. Futures accounts at Tradier Futures are not covered by SIPC; there, the rules of the CFTC and NFA apply.

FINRA’s BrokerCheck lists two final regulatory actions against Tradier Brokerage. On March 2, 2026, FINRA censured Tradier and fined it $75,000. According to the findings, Tradier reported fewer than twenty customer complaints in its statistics to FINRA and left out hundreds, among them complaints about the online system, poor customer service and margin and options trading. Tradier accepted the findings without admitting or denying them and has since improved its procedures, according to the report.

The SEC case concerned a required investor disclosure. On July 26, 2021, the SEC ordered Tradier to pay $50,000 because it missed the deadlines to file and deliver its Form CRS, a short summary every broker must give retail customers: June 30, 2020 for filing and new customers, July 30, 2020 for existing customers. Tradier became compliant on May 5, 2021. Both cases are listed on the BrokerCheck report, where you can check the current state yourself.

Opening an account: US and international traders

US residents open a Tradier account online and need no minimum deposit for a brokerage account. Tradier’s help center says you must be at least 18 years old. Tradier names Plaid as the service that connects your bank account for funding. A futures account needs a separate application and at least $500.

Tradier publishes a list of countries where its brokerage can open accounts. On November 2, 2026, its permitted and blocked countries page listed Germany, Austria and Switzerland as permitted, and blocked residents of the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Residents of India may open an account but cannot trade options or on margin. The list decides by residence, not citizenship, and does not promise that every application is accepted. Spot forex stays limited to US residents, so confirm your case with Tradier before you send money.

Pros and cons of Tradier

Pros Cons
$0 on stocks and equity options for $10 a month (Pro) $0.35 per trade and contract on the free Lite plan
API included in every plan, with a paper sandbox Sandbox runs on 15-minute delayed data
Hosted MCP server with 22 tools, including multi-leg orders AI connection shares account data with the AI provider
More than 100 partner platforms Futures in a separate company with a separate account
Cheap index options on Pro Plus ($0.10) $50 inactivity fee, $75 to transfer out, 9.75% margin interest
Assets held at Apex Clearing with SIPC Two regulatory fines (2021, 2026), payment for order flow

Tradier is not the right broker for everyone. If you invest a few times a year, the inactivity fee and the commission on Lite make it more expensive than commission-free app brokers. If you need global markets or futures and stocks in one account, Interactive Brokers covers far more. Tradier’s strength is the US options trader who trades often, or uses a platform or code that is already connected to Tradier.

Conclusion: who should use Tradier?

Tradier fits active US options traders and developers who build on top of a broker. The Pro plan removes commissions on stocks and equity options for $10 a month, the API comes with every account, and the hosted MCP server lets an AI assistant place multi-leg options orders, with a paper mode for testing.

Before you open an account, check three things against your own trading. First, count your option contracts per month and compare Lite with Pro. Second, decide whether a 15-minute delayed sandbox is enough to test your code. Third, read the BrokerCheck report and, if you live outside the US, get written confirmation that Tradier accepts you. Test any AI connection with the paper token first, and fund a live account only with money you can afford to lose. Website: tradier.com.

Frequently asked questions about Tradier

Is Tradier a legit broker?

Yes, Tradier Brokerage, Inc. is a registered US broker-dealer and a member of FINRA and SIPC. You can check it on FINRA BrokerCheck under CRD 104982. The report lists two final actions: a $75,000 FINRA fine in 2026 for incomplete complaint reporting and a $50,000 SEC penalty in 2021 for a late Form CRS.

How much does Tradier cost?

As of November 1, 2026, Tradier has three plans: Lite for $0, Pro for $10 and Pro Plus for $35 a month. On Lite, stock trades and option contracts cost $0.35 each. On Pro and Pro Plus, stocks and equity options cost $0 in commission; clearing, exchange and regulatory fees apply on every plan.

What are Tradier’s other fees?

The most important extra fees are the inactivity fee and the transfer fee. Tradier charges $50 a year if you trade fewer than twice a year, $75 to move your account out and $9 per option assignment or exercise ($5 on Pro Plus). Margin interest was 9.75 percent a year on November 1, 2026.

Is the Tradier API free?

Yes, API access is included in all three plans, including the free Lite plan. You only pay the normal commissions and fees of your plan. Every brokerage account also gets a paper-trading sandbox with 15-minute delayed data.

Does Tradier have paper trading?

Yes, every Tradier brokerage account includes a paper-trading sandbox. It works through the API and the MCP server with a separate paper token. Orders are filled against 15-minute delayed data, so it is a test of your code more than of your strategy.

Can I connect Tradier to an AI assistant like Claude?

Yes, through Tradier’s hosted MCP server, which works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Gemini CLI and others. It can read your account and option chains and place orders, including spreads. Whether it trades real money depends on the paper-trading setting and the matching token, so start in paper mode.

Can I trade crypto at Tradier?

Not directly: Tradier offers crypto ETFs, options on them and Bitcoin and Ether futures, not the coins themselves. The futures run through the separate Tradier Futures account. To hold Bitcoin in a wallet, you need a crypto exchange.

Can I open a Tradier account outside the US?

Often yes: Tradier’s country list, checked on November 2, 2026, permits Germany, Austria and Switzerland, among others. Residents of the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia are blocked, and residents of India cannot trade options or on margin. Confirm your eligibility with Tradier before you fund an account.
