Tickmill (2022) – introduction of the forex and CFD broker

Broker comparison – who is the best? In this article, we are introducing the broker Tickmill.

What is behind Tickmill?

The online broker with the official company name Tickmill UK Ltd has been residing in London since 2015. The vision of this still relatively young company is to offer private investors and companies worldwide an opportunity to „realize their full potential„. The company itself is also run by traders whose many years of experience enable them to optimally see things from their customers‘ perspective.

The history of Tickmill

Tickmill was established in August 2014 in Mahe, Seychelles. But the company did not start to act as an online broker until January 2015.

Tickmill’s head office then moved to the British capital in 2016, ever since when the online broker has been regulated by the British Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

In July 2017, Tickmill expanded its product range by CFDs on bonds and introduced 4 CFDs on German government bonds. Just a few months later, the online broker also introduced cryptocurrencies and expanded its range by bitcoin CFDs.

The beginning of 2019 then saw the development of a German-language website, ever since when Tickmill’s services have also been available to interested traders in Germany.

Which awards can Tickmill show for itself?

The online broker Tickmill has been able to markedly expand its range of services in recent years. The media have also recognized this, and often mentioned Tickmill in the press correspondingly positive

Added to this were a number of awards that Tickmill is now able to boast of. Particularly worth mentioning in this respect is the just recently won „Best Trading Platform Provider“ prize bestowed by the FXDailyInfo Forex Brokers Awards 2019. The reasons they gave for this include „superfast execution“ and „unbeatable trading conditions„.

But Tickmill also proved a smash at the UK Forex Awards in 2018, where it won the „Best Forex Execution Broker“ award, the company’s third award in that year already.

Deposit protection and regulation

When it comes to selecting a suitable online broker, it stands to reason that its regulation and protection of your investments always have a major role to play. As already mentioned above, Tickmill is regulated by the British Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Tickmill is also the parent organization of Tickmill Europe Ltd, which is additionally licenced and regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).

The FCA regulations require the online broker to keep client funds separate from the company’s own assets.  Client deposits can therefore not be used for the company’s purposes, and are thus also protected from creditors in the event of an insolvency.

And with Tickmill also being a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), client funds are fully insured up to an amount of GB£ 85,000.

Account types at Tickmill

Tickmill principally offers its clients a choice between three different account types: a „Classic„, „Pro“ and „VIP“ version. But before describing the details wherein these account types differ, let us take a brief look at what they have in common.

All-in-all, Tickmill offers 84 different trade instruments. In contrast to many other online brokers, you can set „stop orders“ and „limit orders“ near the market price here. The „stop levels“ and „limit levels“ are therefore zero for all three account types.

In addition to the above, the base currencies are also identical with all three accounts: USD, EUR, GBP, PLN.

And now for the details of the differences between the account types:

Classic Account

The Classic Account enables you to trade in global markets without commissions. The available markets are subdivided into CFDs on 62 currency pairs, 15 stock indices, WTI, precious metals, and bonds. Another feature of the Classic Account is that the raw market spreads are shown in the charts without mark-up – i.e. price increases. See below for a list of the Classic Account’s facts & figures.

Classic Account trading conditions:

  • The minimum deposit with a Classic Account is € 100.00
  • Spreads start from 1.6 pips
  • Maximum leverage for retail clients: 1:30
  • Maximum leverage for professional clients: 1:500
  • Minimum lots: 0.1

Pro Account

The „Pro Account“ is most of all distinguished by tight spreads and low commissions. You can use it to trade 62 currency pairs, 16 CFDs, gold and silver.

The commission of US$ 2 per side and lot makes Tickmill one of the world’s least expensive online brokers in this respect. One lot of EUR/USD (€ 100,000) will consequently only cost you € 4 in commissions round turn.

Pro Account trading conditions:

  • The minimum deposit with the Pro Account is 100.00
  • Spreads start from as little as 0.0 pips
  • Maximum leverage for retail clients: 1:30
  • Maximum leverage for professional clients: 1:500
  • Minimum lots: 0.1

VIP Account

Last but not least, some details of Tickmill’s VIP Account model. The trading instruments here are the same as with the Pro Account, but the commission is much lower with only US$ 1.00 per side and lot

VIP Account trading conditions:

  • The minimum deposit with the VIP Account is € 50,000
  • Spreads start from as little as 0,0 pips
  • Maximum leverage for retail clients: 1:30
  • Maximum leverage for professional clients: 1:500
  • Minimum lots: 0.1

Margins

The margins are always very easy to calculate with the forex calculator tool already mentioned above. They basically depend on the selected leverage level, however: while a leverage of 1:1 will require the full down payment, a 1:30 leverage will reduce it to a mere 3.33 %

Professional clients are permitted leverages of up to 1:500, in which case the margin will come down to just 0.2 %.

The demo account at Tickmill

The demo account offered by Tickmill is ideal for interested investors wishing to try out their skills and strategies without any financial risk first, before starting with a proper live account. One unique feature of this Demo account is that it can be used for an unlimited period of time without expiring. The account will actually only expire if it is not logged into for seven consecutive days. Registering for the demo account only takes a few minutes, all they ask for is some standard information like your name, e-mail address, country and telephone number.

The customer service

This section is about the service aspect of Tickmill. Their customer service is always available to answer any questions or deal with any other concerns you may have, and can be contacted by e-mail or telephone in over 10 different languages. If your enquiry comes in by e-mail, the online broker guarantees a reply within 24 hours. In addition to which the customer service is also available on the phone from Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. GMT. If required, you can also ask them to call you back.

Experiences with Tickmill

Looking at the various experiences made by customer in the past and their ratings, one quickly realizes that they generally tend to be positive. Even if there is still some room for improvement in the selection of available CFDs, novices and more advanced investors care still able to choose from a considerable range.

Experience has shown the customer service to be very reliable and quick to come up with a correspondingly competent answer. Another positive aspect is the relatively low minimum deposit of just € 100.00. Their cost schedule is transparent and provides interested investors with a quick overview. Apart from which their fees are very low in a global comparison.

The extensive protection afforded client funds by the FSCS meanwhile speaks for itself. Most broker testers‘ ratings of Tickmill found online thus generally tend to be „good“ to „very good„.
