SMB Capital is one of the few trading educators that also runs a real proprietary trading desk. The firm in New York trades with its own money, and its education arm SMB Training sells courses built on the methods of that desk. Its YouTube channel and the books of co-founder Mike Bellafiore have made it known far beyond Manhattan.
We did not buy a program, and we are not SMB customers. This review is based on the public pages of SMB Training and SMB Capital, the refund policy and support articles, a FINRA BrokerCheck search, Trustpilot and YouTube data, all checked on 7 November 2026. We have no business relationship with SMB Capital.

What is SMB Capital? The desk and SMB Training
SMB Capital is a proprietary trading firm in New York that trades equities, options and futures with its own capital and trains new traders for its desk.
The firm and the course business are two sides of one brand. According to smbcap.com, SMB was founded in 2005 and hires discretionary and automated traders who are funded by the firm. The courses on smbtraining.com carry the copyright line of SMB U LLC. Questions about the legal relationship between the companies are best put to SMB in writing.
The two partners run the business. The company page names Mike Bellafiore, author of “One Good Trade” and “The PlayBook”, and Steve Spencer as the partners who manage the firm daily. The SMB Training pages list further mentors, including Seth Freudberg for options and the desk traders Justin Spero, Garrett Drinon and Ryan Hasson.
Most people know SMB from YouTube. The SMB Capital channel had 772,000 subscribers and 2,584 videos on 7 November 2026, according to YouTube’s data. The free videos give you a sample of the teaching before you pay anything.

What does SMB Training teach?
SMB Training sells a mix of self-paced courses, live mentoring and access to the desk’s daily meetings. According to a support article updated in April, the equities programs range from foundation courses to advanced mentoring, and a separate line covers options. The central idea is the PlayBook: a written record of your best setups and how you trade them.
The flagship course follows the desk’s own training path. The DNA of Successful Trading has 17 modules on stock selection, risk management, trade review, position sizing and tape reading. It includes weekly live sessions with Steve Spencer. SMB says it uses the same topics to train its NYC desk.
Other programs focus on a single skill. SMB Scalp Radar teaches five scalping setups with a detection tool. Reading the Tape teaches order flow, and The Winning Trader covers 20 strategies. Two advanced programs, Fast Track and Systematic Trader, are open only to people who have completed one of the larger courses.
The options line is a separate world. The Options Tribe offers weekly webinars and an archive of more than 650 hours, and there are a foundation program, a breakthrough program and one-to-one mentoring with desk trader Nick Salvatore. We found no prices for the options programs on the pages we checked.
SMB Capital cost: prices of the programs
SMB Training’s prices range from a monthly subscription to five-figure mentoring programs. All figures below come from the program pages on 7 November 2026. Trader 365 is advertised as saving $588 compared with four Trader 90 periods, and we found no payment plan on these pages.
| Program | Price on 7 November 2026 | What the page says |
|---|---|---|
| SMB Inside Access | $297 first month, then $147 a month | 18 live sessions a week, session archive, Discord |
| Trader 90 | $1,397 | 90 days of tools and group meetings |
| Trader 365 | $5,000 | One year of tools and meetings |
| Reading the Tape | $4,000 | Tape reading course, video library for 90 days |
| DNA of Successful Trading | $5,000 | 17 modules, weekly live sessions |
| The Winning Trader | $6,000 | 20 strategies, more than 160 sessions |
| SMB Scalp Radar | $6,000 | 5 scalping setups, tool, lifetime video access |
| Fast Track | $10,000 | 4 weeks, at most 12 traders, prerequisite required |
| Systematic Trader | $10,000 | 4 weeks, prerequisite required |
The advanced path adds up quickly. As our own example, DNA of Successful Trading plus Fast Track costs $15,000, before taxes, data, trading losses and broker costs. The cheapest paid way to see SMB’s daily meetings is Inside Access at $297 for the first month. Its page says you can cancel in the customer portal before the next monthly renewal, but cancelling stops future charges and does not refund a payment. There is no trial period.
Refunds and terms: all sales are final
SMB Training’s refund policy is short: it offers no refunds. The refund policy says that buyers get access to proprietary materials once payment is received, and that they are therefore not entitled to any refund.

The support pages confirm the rule and add details. The refund article, updated in April, says that all sales are final and that there are no refunds, trials or cooling-off period. It names the laws of New York and the state and federal courts in New York for disputes, and says the full terms of use are available from support by email.
For buyers abroad, this matters before checkout. We did not find the complete terms of use on the website, so ask for them in writing before you pay. Some countries give consumers rights that a provider’s terms cannot remove, and we have not assessed how these terms apply where you live. This is a summary, not legal advice.
Can you get a seat on the SMB desk?
Some programs mention a path to the desk, but SMB’s own figures show that it is rare. The Winning Trader page says outstanding students may be offered a spot on the proprietary trading desk, and that fewer than 5% of students receive such an offer. The Trader 90/365 page says fewer than 1% of applicants become traders on the desk.
Treat a desk seat as a possible bonus, not as the product. The programs teach methods, and the decision about a seat stays with SMB. We found no published figure for how many course participants trade profitably afterwards. The disclosures say that testimonial results are not typical and that no one has verified them.
SMB Capital is not a funded-account challenge. Online prop firms sell evaluation accounts with fixed rules, while SMB hires traders for its own desk. If you are looking for a challenge model instead, our prop firm drawdown guide explains how those rules work and why many accounts fail.
Regulation and track record: what we could check
SMB’s disclosures say it is neither a registered investment adviser nor a broker-dealer. The disclosure page says SMB will not give investment advice unless it is registered or meets an exemption, and it names the publisher exemption as an example. We did not check whether such an exemption applies. A search for “SMB Capital” on FINRA’s BrokerCheck on 7 November 2026 returned no firm by that name. We have not assessed whether SMB’s business requires a registration.
A name search is not a full background check. Our BrokerCheck check was limited to a firm-name search, and we did not search court databases or other regulators. If regulatory history matters to your decision, search the SEC and your own regulator yourself before you buy.
There is also no published performance record. Unlike some educators, SMB does not publish audited account statements of its partners or a summary of desk results on the pages we checked. SMB’s pages speak of seven-figure traders on its desk, but we could not check that claim. Judge the teaching by its content and feedback, not by results you cannot see.
SMB Capital reviews: what customers say
There are few independent reviews, so treat every score with care. In early November 2026, Trustpilot listed only about ten reviews for SMB Training, with a low score. The profile we checked was unclaimed, and Trustpilot noted that the company had not invited customers, so the reviews may not be representative.
So few reviews say little about thousands of students. The SMB pages show their own testimonials, and their disclosure says these were not compensated and not verified. SMB’s free videos are company samples, not independent evidence, but they let you judge whether the teaching style suits you before you pay.
Who is SMB Training for?
SMB Training is aimed at traders who already know the basics and want a professional routine of preparation, execution and review. According to the program pages, the desk meetings show how SMB traders plan a day and review their trades. The PlayBook method, a written record of your best setups, can be applied to other trading styles too.
It is a weak fit for complete beginners with a small budget. The courses cost thousands of dollars, there are no refunds, and the core style is intraday trading of US stocks. Our learn trading guide sets out a cheaper sequence for the first steps, and our guide to trading courses shows how to compare a program before you pay.
Strengths and limits of SMB Capital
Strengths
- Real desk: a proprietary trading firm in New York since 2005, with partners who trade
- Free material: a large YouTube channel with company videos to sample before paying
- Method: the PlayBook approach to recording and reviewing setups, as described on the program pages
- Range: courses for equities and options, from a monthly subscription to small-group mentoring
- Desk route: a stated, if rare, chance of a seat on the desk
- Cancellation: Inside Access can be cancelled in the portal before the next renewal
Limits
- Refunds: no refunds, no trial and no cooling-off period according to SMB
- Cost: most programs cost several thousand dollars
- Evidence: no published performance record of the desk or of course participants
- Terms: full terms of use only on request
- Reviews: very few independent customer reviews
Conclusion: is SMB Capital worth it?
SMB Capital offers education from people who run a real trading desk, but its prices are high and its policy excludes refunds. The free YouTube videos let you judge the teaching style, and the PlayBook idea of recording your best setups is simple to try on your own. A desk seat is possible, but by SMB’s own figures it goes to fewer than 5% of Winning Trader students.
We have not tested the programs, so we cannot rate their teaching quality. Start with the free videos. If you still want more, Inside Access is the cheapest paid step. You can cancel before the next renewal, but SMB’s policy gives no refund, even for the first month. Ask for the full terms in writing before you pay, and set yourself a budget limit for education.
Compare the offer before you pay. Our guide to trading education helps you choose a learning format, our Warrior Trading review looks at another US provider for day traders, and our Market Rebellion review covers an options-focused one. For context: Kagels Trading also sells trading education. This review is not investment advice.

SMB Capital is a real proprietary trading firm in New York, founded in 2005, according to its own pages. It sells education through SMB Training, with no refunds. Our name search on FINRA’s BrokerCheck found no firm called SMB Capital, which is not a full background check. “Legit” does not mean that a program suits you, so check the price, the terms and the free videos first.
How much does SMB Training cost?
On 7 November 2026, SMB Training’s prices ranged from $297 to $10,000. Inside Access cost $297 for the first month and $147 a month after that. The main courses cost between $4,000 and $6,000, and the advanced programs $10,000 each.
Does SMB Training offer refunds?
No, according to its refund policy and support pages. All sales are final, and SMB says there are no refunds, trials or cooling-off periods. Ask for the full terms of use before you buy.
Can I get funded by SMB Capital after a course?
It is possible but rare, according to SMB’s own pages. The Winning Trader page says fewer than 5% of students receive an offer to join the desk. SMB does not sell funded accounts like an online prop firm.
Who founded SMB Capital?
Mike Bellafiore and Steve Spencer founded SMB Capital in 2005. Bellafiore wrote “One Good Trade” and “The PlayBook”, and Spencer leads the daily morning meeting. Both still manage the firm, according to the company page.
Have you tested SMB Training?
No, we have not bought or tested any SMB program. This review examines public program pages, the refund policy and support articles. It does not assess the teaching quality or trading performance of the programs.
